Alexander Canovic is Serbian, and he was born on the 18 February 1983. In the youth team, he was playing for the famous Red Star Belgrade where he spent three years from 1998 to 2001.
In 2001, he joined the Serbian side FK Voždovac where he spent two seasons there before in the 2003-2004 season he moved to FK Pobeda in the Republic of Macedonia.
On International level, Canovic was part of the Serbian and Montenegrin 2004 Olympic football team, who exited in the first round, finishing fourth in Group C behind gold-medal winners Argentina, Australia and Tunisia.
Alexander decided to go for another different adventure and in fact he left FK Pobeda where he returned to Serbia and joined FK Vojvodina where he managed to make 9 appearances.
In the 2005-2006 season he joined another Serbian side FK BASK where once again he managed to make nine appearances.
In probably the best season for Canovic, the 2006-2007 he moved back to FK Voždovac where he was the number one choice between the posts and made no less than 23 appearances.
Despite this very satisfactory season, Alexander still decided to leave FK Voždovac and he joined the Serbian side FK Rad Beograd where once again, Alexander had a positive season and made 12 appearances.
The 2008-2009 season was another positive spell for Canovic where he moved to BSK Borča and made sixteen appearances. In 2009 as well, he joined Dinamo Minsk where he made eleven appearances
In the 2010-2011 season he was playing for the Cypriot side Ermis Aradippou where he made nine appearances.
After the return of Mr. Paul Zammit with Birkirkara, he made it clear that he want another goalkeeper to be a tough challenge for Jorge Mora so that both keepers must be full concentrated in order to start and even earn a regular place.
Canovic arrived Malta on the 21 October and he managed to impress the Technical Staff and the Committee which then agreed all terms and joined our club as an amateur player.
He made his debut on the 31 October 2011 in the match between Birkirkara and Floriana, where 'The Stripes' won the match with a 3-0 score. Alexandar was utilised as a substitute on the 73th minute.
