Leighton Grech was born on 20 March 1990 and the fast winger joined our Club in the 2011 Summer Transfer Market.

Leighton is a product of Hibernians FC, and he is well-known for his speed and technique. As a product of Hibernians, he made his Premier League debut with them when on Friday, 10 June 2007 Leighton was included as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat against St. George's.

Grech continued to leave a very good impression thanks to his skills and in the next two seasons he continued to find space with the Senior Team before eventually became an established player in the Maltese Premier League

Season 2008-2009

The 2008-2009 season remains a very memorable one for Grech as he was part of the squad that was crowned Champions after taking the only point they needed in the final match of the league in a goal-less draw against Valletta. For Grech, this was the first silverware after in the same season he had scored his first Premier League goal.

Season 2009-2010

The following season had few positives for Grech, bar the debut in the UEFA Champions League after winning the title last year. Hibernians had a disappointing season but Grech continued to show his skills despite scoring just one goal in the Premier League.

Season 2010-2011

In the 2010-2011 season, Leighton was loaned out to Vittoriosa Stars. In this season, Leighton found more space to show his skills and the fast winger reached all the expectations.

He was a regular choice as he made twenty appearances, in which fifteen were from the start while he was included as a substitute five matches. He managed to score two goals.

Season 2011-2012

Following an excellent 2010-2011 loan spell with Vittoriosa Stars, they were several clubs interested in the signing of Grech but the winger chose Birkirkara FC and he signed a five-year contract with our Club in June 2011.

However, in his first season with our Club, he found little space and in the January Transfer Market, he was loaned out to Vittoriosa Stars. With Vittoriosa he regained a first-eleven place and found more space to show his potential.

Season 2012-2013

Leighton was once again loaned out in the 2012-2013 season, but this time the destination of the winger was Qormi FC. With Qormi, continued to get more playing time and the winger continued to enjoy his positive moments in his career.

In this season, Leighton made twenty-eighth appearances, in which he started eighteen matches while he was included as a substitute eighth times. He managed to score three goals.

Season 2013-2014

With Grech enjoying an excellent 2012-2013 season with Qormi, it was decided that the winger will be loaned out to the same Club again. Many consider this season as Leighton’s best one throughout his career following having a terrific spell.

Leighton made twenty-eighth appearances, which he started twenty matches while he was included as a substitute eighth times. During this season, he found net more often as he netted six goals.

Season 2014-2015

Following a brilliant two-season spell with Qormi FC, the Stripes decided not to loan Leighton as he formed part of their 2014-2015 season plans.

Leighton added another silverware on the 8 August 2015, when Birkirkara won the BOV Super Cup thanks by defeating Valletta with a 2-1 score. Leighton was included as a substitute on the eighty-eighth minute.
