MFA Player of the Year 2009-10
by Ivan Mizzi - 19th June 2010Two Birkirkara FC players, Trevor Cilia and Shaun Bajada were nominated for the MFA Player of the Year award. Trevor and Shaun were two out of the five players that have advanced to the final stage.
The other players are the Valletta duo Kevin Sammut and Gilbert Aguis and Tarxien Rainbows midfielder, Denni Rocha Dos Santos.
Other players that were short listed but did not manage to qualify for the final were Marcelo Pereria (Hamrun Spartans), Terence Scerri (Valletta) from the Premier League while Miguel Montfort (Pieta Hotspurs) and Kristian Galea (Sirens) from Division 1.
The ten Club members representing their Premier League clubs, ten other members of the Council and ten journalists were eligible to vote.
Besides the vote that these five players achieved so far, the next points/penalties will be classified as follows:
Points for appearances' in the BOV Premier League, U*BET Fa Trophy and in the National Team.
Penalised for misconduct.
Three points for starting the match even if he was substituted while two points if he comes as a substitute.
Penalised one point for every yellow card and four points for every red card.
One point penalty will be deducted if the player was found guilty of misconduct before or after a match.
Five points will be awarded if the player played a National-Team match while three points if he was included as a substitute.
After the number of votes will be counted, they will be converted into a percentage of the total number of votes achieved by all the five finalists.
An interesting fact about this award is that since the beginning of this award, it was never won by a Birkirkara FC player.
The Player of the Year will be announced on the 16th July 2010.
