Women's Team to take on Mgarr United

by Ayrton Galea - 20th April 2015

Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be all out to keep their title hopes alive, while keeping the pressure on leaders Hibernians, but their task is anything but plain-sailing when this evening they take on Mgarr United FC.

The Stripes delivered a bold statement of their title aspirations last Tuesday when despite having no less than six players missing, they trounced Pembroke Athleta with a 7-0 score. Last Tuesday's win not only boosted the Stripes to keep their title hopes alive, but also confirmed the potential of the squad when it comes to squad rotation.

This year's matches between Birkirkara and Mgarr had contrasting results. Birkirkara won the first-round match thanks to a 2-0 victory but Mgarr snatched the three points in second-round with a narrow 2-1 victory which cost the Stripes the leadership of the league. In their third encounter in the Women's Knockout Quarter Final, a goal by Rebecca Chircop in the extra-time period handed them a 1-0 victory.

Mgarr, after losing to Hibernians with a 3-1 score and then being knocked out of the Women's Knockout, last Tuesday bounced back with a 3-2 win over Kirkop United with a goal in the added time of the second half. They are battling to secure a third place in the league, as they are joined in the third place with Raiders with thirty-four points.

Birkirkara will be boosted with the return of some of their key players. Kelly Agius Pace will be back following a one-match suspension, while Rebecca Chircop, Stephania Farrugia and Alishia Sultana are likely to be available. Goalkeeper Janice Xuereb remains doubtful, while Kim Parnis is ruled-out with a long-term injury.

The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.

We would like to encourage you to come and support our Women's Team in this crucial match.

Come on the Stripes!
