'I believe a lot in the team's strength' - Paul Fenech

by Ayrton Galea - 24th October 2014

In Birkirkara's last match against Valletta there was a lot of satisfaction for the Stripes, but certainly the outstanding performance of Paul Fenech was among the best factors. Just a few hours before another direct encounter, we talked with Paul Fenech.

Paul has been one of Birkirkara's most consistent players, and the tireless player gave his best performance in last Sunday' 2-0 victory over Valletta, and he was named as the BOV Player of the Match. Pauls said “I'm very happy with my performance but I believe that I can give more to this team. I believe that I should work more to start concentrated from the very first minute.”

We asked Paul what was the winning key in last Sunday's match, and he said “The match against Valletta was won in the midfield department in my opinion, as I believe that we didn't give them the chance to play the ball as they wished. I believe that our tactical discipline was the main factor for our superiority during the match.

The Stripes topped-up their momentum with a significant boost after picking the sixth win out of eighth matches but they will be involved in yet another difficult test when they take on the BOV Premier League unbeaten leaders, Hibernians. Paul said, “Tomorrow's match is a crucial one for both sides. The victory over Valletta boosted our mental strength and undoubtedly this week we prepared very well tactically and mentally for the match against Hibernians. I believe a lot in taking the three points from the match because the team is now finding its feet match after match. However, we're aware of the difficulty of the match as we know Hibernians' present form.”

When asked about his personal and the Club's ambitions for this season, Paul said, “Obviously, my target and the squad's target is to bring more silverware to this Club. I would like to win the BOV Premier League but one of my personal wishes is to win once again the U*BET FA Trophy, an honour which we won last in 2008. I believe a lot in the team's strength and there is no doubt that we will be challenging for all possible honours.”

Paul Fenech concluded his interview with a message for the supporters. “I would like to pass on the message tp our supporters to keep supporting us in the good and bad moments. It's the only way that we can make it together till the end. Don't judge us on one match or two, but let's stay strong to complete the journey together!”
