Birkirkara ease to victory
by Matthaeus Grasso - 15th March 2009Floriana posed little trouble to a Birkirkara squad determined to take home all three points on a hot Sunday afternoon at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in Hamrun.
After just nine minutes, Birkirkara were awarded a free-kick from a dangerous position. Up stepped Sean Bajada who slotted home a perfect direct shot, which gave the Floriana keeper no chance. Birkirkara were already one up.
'The Stripes' kept on dominating play, and in fact after thirty-seven minutes, the score was doubled when youngster Martin Anastasi rebounded his own shot into the net.
The second-half was quite a boring one, as Birkirkara drew back a little bit in order to defend the double lead, with Floriana going close with a header in the six yard box. Michael Galea and substitute Angus Buhagiar both had shot parried onto the post.
Lack of fair play by Floriana characterized the remaining few minutes of the match before Kevin Azzopardi blew for full-time, but this had no effect on the match, as 'The Stripes' still ran out 2-0 winners over the 'Greens'
