And what an opportunity it was!

With just a few matches left until the end of the season, Birkirkara could have climbed-up to second place had they won today against a weaker Marsaxlokk side.

After just four minutes, things were already showing negative signs, as Marsaxlokk took the lead through Marcelo Perreira who was served by Chris Camilleri from the left.

On twenty-nine minutes, a Joseph Zerafa cross was handled badly by Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Reuben Debono, with Trevor Cilia having the easiest of task of tapping the ball in the net.

Both sides went in for the half-time break with the scores even.

After fifty-five minutes, Marsaxlokk re-gained the lead through an Alcorse penalty-kick, after the Argentinian himself was brought down just instances earlier by Sokolov.

The result was to remain the same until the full-time whistle, which found Birkirkara asking themselves how they didn't manage to get any points from a match they were expected to take all three.
