Birkirkara heavily beaten yet again

Birkirkara's defensive problems came to light yet again on Monday as 'The Stripes' succumbed to a heavy 4-0 defeat, this time at the hands of new leaders Hibernians.

Just like what happened in the previous encounter, the boys in red and yellow came out of the dugouts looking for an early goal, and had it not been for Mario Muscat's braveries, and maybe even with a little bit of extra motivation and concentration, our side could have easily went ahead.

On the contrary, Hibernians took the early lead when a splendid shot by Rumen Galabov was wonderfully parried by goalkeeper Bernard Paris, only for the ball to end up yet again in the opponent's feet, who had the easiest of tasks in slotting the ball in the empty net. All this after just fifteen minutes of play.

The first interval ended 1-0

The Paolites came out looking to put their mind in rest by scoring one or more goals, and so they did. After just four minutes from the restart, a careless foul in the box resulted in a penalty for Hibs, which was converted by Andrew Cohen.

Birkirkara's misery was increased when Adrian Pulis noted that the Birkirkara goalie was a little bit out of position before unleashing a powerful lob from almost half pitch to make it 3-0.

With the Birkirkara faithful still wondering what has went wrong in the past few matches, Tristan Caruana added a fourth goal deep into stoppage time to complete yet another victory by the Paolites over our out of form side.

This defeat means that the last match of the BOV Premier League season for the 'Stripes' would be needed to decide whether our team or opponents Sliema will place third in the standings.
