Eternal rivals Birkirkara and Valletta crossed swords in a highly anticipated match between two giants of modern Maltese football.

Local football enthusiasts expected to witness a close encounter, and their predictions were right, as the teams secured a point each in a 1-1 draw.

With Valletta trying to make the best out of the fact that Birkirkara had two players missing through suspension, the Stripes managed to keep their calm and determination in order to keep the strikers away from the six yard area.

The first period ended with Valletta having the best goal scoring opportunities, but with our team showing that it's no coincidence that the team is occupying one of the top spots in the Premier League.

As early as two minutes from the restart, Sylvano Comvalius broke free in the opposing penalty area, and unleashed a low shot which took a deflection before rolling over the line to put the Birkirkara fans in delirium.

Ten minutes from the referee's triple whistle, a mix up in Birkirkara's box, led to a goal by Gilbert Agius who shot in the net to make it 1-1. Valletta tried to press for the winning goal, but this never came, as underdogs Birkirkara managed to hold the professional Citizens.

Our team is now occupying third spot, one point behind the same Valletta, as the challenge of Tarxien R. awaits the squad, just a few days before the start of a brand new year.
