George Mallia leaves Birkirkara FC
by Ivan Mizzi - 31st August 2010Veteran, George Mallia has decided to end his long spell with Birkirkara FC and to seek a new challenge. As from today, the 31 year old has joined his home town's team - Qormi FC.
George is a Sliema Wanderers Nursery product and he made his debut with the Blues in the 1995/1996 season. In summer 1998, he joined Floriana F.C. where he had four successful years before joining Birkirkara F.C. in 2002
George was considered to be one of the best club men that Birkirkara FC ever had. His determination in every game put his name in the heart of all the supporters. With our club, George has scored no less than twenty four goals.
Probably his most memorable goal arrived in the U*Bet FA Trophy on the 20th May 2008 when he managed to score a splendid goal in the semi-final against Valletta. After winning the ball in the middle of the field and rounding several players, his final shot from inside the box ended inside the net to make the score 4-1 for Birkirkara. The Citizens scored a consolation goal in the final minutes to end the match 4-2.
Unfortunately, last season, following an injury, he lost his starting place with the first eleven.
We want to thank George for his sterling service with the Club, and wish him the best of luck in his new adventure.
