Birkirkara in a difficult match against Metalurg
by Ayrton Galea - 4th July 2012Tomorrow Birkirkara will be facing the Macedonian side, FK Metalurg Skopje in their first home leg match of the UEFA Europa League and aiming for a positive result.
Earlier today, a press conference was held and both coaches gave their views before this important match.
Mr. Paul Zammit's (Birkirkara FC's Head Coach) comments
Mr. Zammit opened by saying that, just like any other Maltese team that competes in this European competition, it is tough to prepare the team well. He said that he would prefer a longer squad for this match. There was a great effort to bring in specific players to the squad, but so far has not succeeded to have the players that he wants.
He went on by saying that, as everyone is aware of, last year the team had a solid base and he introduced several youngsters to the team. That is why he is happy with the team's attitude about the preparations they had for these two games.
Mr. Zammit concluded that he is aware of his opponents strength and he is expecting a tough match but he said that the team must be ready for it. He closed by saying that he knows the opponents' strong points and he hopes that his team will use their own strong points to have a positive match.
Mr. Gjorgii Hristov's (FK Metalurg Skopje's Head Coach) comments
Mr. Gjorgii Hristov opened by saying that his team is facing the same problems in this competition and they did not have enough time to prepare as they only had 3-4 weeks until today. He also said that the team came here to achieve positive results.
He went on by saying that these games are always special and he knows that this should an interesting game and chances for the respective teams are fifty-fifty. An interesting fact that he mentioned was that he sees that Maltese League growing stronger every year while the Macedonian league is getting weaker.
Mr. Hristov added that he's aware of Birkirkara's very good forward line, but the team is not afriad and he believes that they are ready to make historical results since it's only the third time they are participating at European level.
He concluded by saying that the match is expected to be tough since the Maltese team are growing stronger and the result achieved by Valletta yesterday proves this.
The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to start at 19:00. Transport from Valley Road leaves at 18:00.
