Stripes to face Paolites in Women's League
by Ayrton Galea - 23rd April 2013The Women's League title race could take a decisive turn this evening when Champions Birkirkara and Hibernians will cross swords in the first match of the last round of the BOV Women's First Division League.
After Birkirkara and Mosta shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw, Hibernians closed on the dual-leaders to just one point, with the title race being blown wide open again for the three challengers.
With their last defeat going back to the 9th October, Birkirkara established themselves as the most consistent team of the league. The Stripes made a fine comeback to move to the top of the table following their early defeat to Mosta in the second match of the league. Last Tuesday's match was the fifteenth one without a defeat despite brining to an end the run of six wins in a row.
On the other hand, after they were beaten by the Stripes in the first match of the Championship Pool, the Paolites showed great resilience not to give up their title. They handed out the first defeat of the league to Mosta with a solitary goal by Ylenia Carabott who converted a penalty. The Paolites kept their confidence sky high by trashing Gozo in their last outing with a 6-0 score.
Birkirkara registered two wins out of three over the Paolites. After the Stripes defeated Hibernians with a 3-1 score in the first round, the teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the second before the Stripes registered another 3-1 victory over the Paolites.
With Mosta beating Gozo with a comfortable 7-0 score this Sunday, the Blues are temporarily sole leaders of the Women's League, with the Stripes and the Paolites however having a game in hand.
The match will be played at the Luxol Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.
Come on the Stripes!
