Birkirkara take on Tarxien Rainbows
by Ayrton Galea - 25th October 2013Champions Birkirkara FC will be hoping to keep the pace with leaders Hibernians and Valletta this evening, when they face Tarxien Rainbows FC.
Following a disappointing draw against Qormi, The Stripes returned to winning ways last Sunday by beating Naxxar Lions thanks to a much improved performance rounded off by a stunning strike by Shola Shodiya past the hour mark.
The Stripes, who are third with seventeen points from eight matches, reduced the gap to five points between them and leaders Hibernians as the latter were held in a 2-2 draw against Sliema Wanderers to drop their first points of the season. Thanks to this, the Stripes moved alone in third place, one point under Valletta.
On the other hand, Tarxien Rainbows so far had a disappointing campaign. They have collected eight points from eight matches thanks to two wins and two draws. The Rainbows are occupying the seventh position with Vittoriosa Starts and Balzan respectively.
Tarxien had a sour start to the league as a goal by Edison Luis Dos Santos of Hibernians saw them dramatically losing the derby of the South in their opening fixture. They bounced back with a narrow 2-1 victory but then conceded a trashing 6-2 defeat to Qormi and a 3-1 defeat to Naxxar Lions. They made a positive short string of good results by holding Sliema Wanderers in a draw, beating Balzan and sharing the spoils with Vittoriosa before they conceded a defeat against Rabat Ajax.
Both sides will be unable to field their best formation. The Stripes will have Paul Fenech suspended for collecting his fourth yellow card during the last match against Naxxar Lions. Tarxien Rainbows will be without the services of Ferdando Lopes who will also be suspended for being sent off during the Rainbows' last match.
The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00.
Come on the Stripes!
