Stripes seek to extend positive form
by Ayrton Galea - 8th November 2013Champions Birkirkara FC have been going through a fine moment as last Sunday they registered their third consecutive win, ahead of another tricky test against Vittoriosa Stars FC.
Following the disappointing 1-1 draw against Qormi, one might have doubted the Stripes' true potential as consistency seemed to be lacking in the Birkirkara squad. However, the squad showed great attitude by registering three wins in a row.
The Stripes began to gear up to their present form by beating Naxxar Lions and Tarxien Rainbows with a solitary goal. Last Sunday, they continued where they left off as a fine performance enabled them to end Floriana's positive run with a 3-1 score.
This match will bring to an end the first round commitments, and there is no doubt that the Stripes will be seeking to end round on a positive note. However, they have no easy task in front of them as Vittoriosa have sprung some surprises already.
With nine points from the ten matches played, Vittoriosa are currently on the 7th place, five points away from the other newly promoted side, Naxxar Lions. Last Sunday, they failed to convert their scoring chances into goals as despite playing for one hour with one player more, as Naxxar had a player sent off. However they equalised in the last minutes of the match to salvage a point and end the match in a 1-1 draw.
While Birkirkara has no players suspended, Vittoriosa will be without the services of Michael Camilleri who is serving a one match ban following collecting his fourth yellow card in the previous encounter against Naxxar Lions.
The match is going to be played at the Centenary Stadium in Ta' Qali and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
