Birkirkara to face Vittoriosa Stars in the U*BET FA Trophy
by Ayrton Galea - 25th November 2013Champions Birkirkara FC will be seeking to book their place in the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy tomorrow evening when they will face Premier League side, Vittoriosa Stars FC. This is the only match that two Premier League sides will play against each other in this round of the competition.
The Stripes will be looking to avoid the previous two years disappointment of being eliminated in the early rounds of this competition.
However, the Stripes' task is far from a walk in the park. Knockout competitions have a habit of springing surprises, and this is a lesson that the Stripes learned in the hardest way in the previous two years. Two years ago, they were eliminated in the fourth round by Hamrun Spartans, and last season, they also eliminated in the same round by Qormi.
On the other hand, Vittoriosa will start this match as the under-dogs to a certain extent, and this means that they will enter the match with nothing to lose. They are currently third from bottom in the BOV Premier League with nine points from twelve matches, and they suffered their seventh league defeat last Saturday when they were beaten by Balzan FC with a score of 2-1.
This will be the second time that these two teams will play against each other in this competition in these last three years. In season 2011-2012 they met in the third round of the competition and the Stripes eliminated Vittoriosa, who were still in the BOV First Division League with a 4-0 score.
If the ninety minutes will not be enough to declare a winner, extra time and if necessary, a penalty shoot-out will have to settle the issue.
The match is going to be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick-off at 20:15.
Come on the Stripes!
