Birkirkara, Hibernians in Women's top of the table clash
by Ayrton Galea - 20th January 2014Birkirkara vs Hibernians has been the most expected match in the BOV First Division Women's League fixture for this season, and tomorrow evening these two sides will go head-to-head.
The level of expectancy for the clash is sky high, as the three precise points at stake could give a fair indication of where the league title will be heading.
Birkirkara had a slow start in the league, as they had little chance to rest, and were still recovering from a gruelling participation in the UEFA Women's Champions League. However, the last outings by the Maltese Champions were a reminder of the superb from that they had last season, and they are seeking nothing less than to repeat last year's success.
The Stripes, with just one defeat this season at the hands of Hibernians, have stepped up their game, and they are coming from five straight wins.
Women's team coach Johann Scicluna said “I have all the squad fit and ready for this match. We are ready from all aspects to win this battle. This year we are based on more talented options. We have new comers Rebecca, with great experience, and Tara an upcoming talented player. Raina Giusti is on top form and on the day she can make the difference by combining with Rachel Cuschieri.”
Hibernians have so far managed to win all their eight matches in the league. They are hoping to win their tenth title following an absence of five years, which were dominated by Birkirkara, who won four of the last five. In their last match, Hibernians trounced Raiders with a score of 7-0.
The two sides are on equal points, but Hibernians have a game in hand. A draw would favour Hibernians' side as they would maintain their advantage, but a win for Birkirkara will open the title challenge wide open.
Finally, Mr. Scicluna turned to the Club's loyal supporters for their support, “For all those who love the yellow-red colours of our Club, come and enjoy an entertaining and top-level Women's Football match and be part of our success!”
The match is going to be played at the Luxol Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:15.
We would like to encourage all the Club's supporters to come and support the Women's team for this crucial match of the Women's Team.
Come on the Stripes!
