Women's Team in a make or break clash
by Ayrton Galea - 27th March 2014Birkirkara FC Women's Team will be involved in a make or break clash tomorrow evening, when they will be facing current leaders Hibernians FC, in a match that has a huge influence on the destination of the BOV Women's First Division League title.
Laying three points under Hibernians, with just three matches to go, the Stripes afford nothing less than the three points in order to blow the title race open once again. On the other hand, a victory for Hibernians will make them sure favourites of capturing their tenth league title.
Birkirkara Coach, Mr. Johann Scicluna is aware of the importance of the clash. "This is a do-or-die clash for us. However, with our experience in this type of situations we can come out of tomorrow's match with flying colours. We are very well prepared physically, mentally and tactically. We are highly charged prepared for this important game."
Following the upset against Mgarr which halted the Stripes' brilliant run, the team bounced back, with three fine matches. They defeated Pembroke, Kirkop and Raiders in their last three outings to regain their momentum.
Birkirkara have already been in this situation in the second-round match against the same Hibernians this season. At that time, the Stripes were three points under Hibernians and they needed a win in order not to fall six points behind Hibernians. A superb display rounded by two goals by Rachel Cuschieri handled the Stripes the three precious points to put her team back on track.
Rachel is enjoying a positive string of performances as she is leading the scoring-table by twenty-three goals and the Birkirkara captain is counting down the hours for tomorrow's match. "These type of matches mean a lot to me, I'm so excited and anxious about this game. It leaves a mixed feeling. We've been training hard and intensively, with a lot of running, but also a lot of small sided games for concentration."
The Birkirkara captain is eager to extend her positive form, and she believes that there is a room for improvement. "Being the top scorer so far means a lot. It was a challenge for me in the beginning of the season to challenge myself for this task. I'm in form but I know I can do even better in finishing"
Rachel is aware of Hibernians' current form but Rachel is trusting in her squad's abilities, "Tomorrow's match can go either side. We are in good form, but Hibernians are also in form. However, of course, I do believe we can win the match if we stay united."
Matches between Birkirkara and Hibernians always attract a good number of people to the stadium, and the Birkirkara Coach is eager to see the Birkirkara supporters present for tomorrow's match. "I'm looking forward to have our 12th player, who is always by our side giving us support. With them by our side, we'll be more than proud to achieve our targets".
The match will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium in Mosta and the match will kick off at 20:15.
We would like to urge all the Birkirkara supporters to come to the stadium and support our Women's Team.
Come on the Stripes!
