Ryan Camenzuli eyes consistent performances
by Ayrton Galea - 27th September 2014Ryan Camenzuli's wonderful strike set the ball rolling for Birkirkara FC to win 2-0 over Qormi FC in the last match. A few hours before they will be involved in the fifth match of the BOV Premier League against Mosta FC, we talked with the determined left-back.
As the final ten minutes of the match approached, Birkirkara were heading for a goal-less draw but seven minutes from time, Ryan hit a thunderous strike from distance to put them ahead before substitute Rafael Ledesma sealed the issue with the second goal in the added time of the second half.
In a three versus two situation in the dying moments, few thought that Ryan would be trying his luck with a long-distance shot. However, Ryan said “I didn't think of anything else but to shoot the ball. I was in a good position and thought of trying my luck. Luckily for us, it ended at the back of the net.”
It was yet another frustrating match as Qormi concentrated on defending, instead of trying to create something. Ryan said “We gave a good performance but we struggled in the final third of the pitch to have shots on goal. It was a very difficult match as they defended in numbers and almost closed all spaces.”
It was another intense week for the squad before going to today's match against Mosta FC, and Ryan is confident following a very good week. “We prepared very well for this match. Everyone is ready and concentrated for this match. Yes, I believe that we can take full points from this match. When we're at our best, we're capable to take the three points against anyone.”
In the early stages of the league campaign, it is normal that every team feels optimistic and Ryan is no exception. He said “I'm aiming to win my first-eleven place for this season and to have consistent performances. I want to win all possible honours and I will do my best to help the team reaching all objectives. We have a very strong squad and we can make it happen.”
Finally, Ryan concluded by appealing all the supporters to remain behind the team. “Stay behind us in the good and the bad moments. Keep giving us your support, it means a lot to us!”
