Stripes and Hibs to contest Women's Super Cup
by Ayrton Galea - 29th September 2014Birkirkara FC and Hibernians FC will be aiming to draw first blood when this evening they will clash in the BOV Women's Super Cup.
The match heralds the start of the new domestic season but the dramatic events occurring last season are still fresh in the minds of both teams. Hibernians won the league with a controversial penalty shoot-out, while Birkirkara bounced back by winning the Women's Knockout.
Having finished second in the BOV Women's First Division League, the Stripes had more time to prepare in the best physical way for this match. Back to training in mid-July, the Women's Team had an intense pre-season.
On the other hand, Hibernians participated in the UEFA Women's Champions League where despite conceding three defeats, they managed to give satisfactory performances under the guidance of Coach Mr. Keith Gouder.
Both teams strengthened their squad this summer. Birkirkara signed Tara Attard for a one-year loan from Kirkop United FC and acquired the services of the German midfielder, Hanna Tegel. On the hand, Hibernians also strengthened their squad with two players, including the signing of the Maltese Women's Under-19's Team player, Shona Zammit.
The match will be played at the Centenary Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 19:00.
Come on the Stripes!
