Stripes to face Hotspurs
by Ayrton Galea - 21st November 2014It has been an inconsistent first round of the BOV Premier League for Birkirkara FC, but they will be seeking to start the second round commitments by returning to winning ways when they take on one of the newly-promoted sides, Pieta Hotspurs.
An overview of the eleven matches played by the Stripes, would leave one undecided about the true potential of the Stripes, as the first round of the league proved to be a roller-coaster ride. The seven victories by the Stripes featured excellent displays in some matches against the likes of Mosta, Vallett and Sliema Wanderers, but four defeats, three unexpectedly against low quoted teams like Balzan, Tarxien and Floriana have hindred the Stripes' progress.
Lying ten points behind leaders Hibernians FC, who have enjoyed an unbeaten first round, the Stripes are left with no other option than to roll-up their sleeves.
The Stripes task could prove to be very tricky, as the Hotspurs have given a very good account of themselves, despite being second from bottom with nine points, but their 2-1 victory over Valletta FC was certainly their highlight of the round. Pieta has impressed mostly by their promising youngsters, while their foreign line-up seems to have increased the level to their squad.
Gareth Sciberras has been training with the squad for the past two weeks, and the Stripes will also be boosted by the return of Rafael Ledesma after serving a one-match.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
