Stripes seek to keep the pace
by Ayrton Galea - 9th January 2015Four victories in the last five matches has seen the Stripes gain some momentum in the BOV Premier League, but they will seek seek to extend this positive form and keep the pace with leaders Hibernians, when they take on Tarxien Rainbows FC on Saturday afternoon.
Inconsistency slowed down the Stripes' progress for most of the first round, but as the second round is now in mid-way, they seem to have found their feet and they are enjoying a string of good results. They registered their biggest victory last Sunday when they defeated Mosta FC with a 5-1 score, to win their fourth game in five matches, dropping only two points in a goal-less draw against Balzan FC.
However, not everything is plain sailing for the Stripes as this week they have suffered a blow with Ellinton Morais' long term injury. Ellinton is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.
On the other hand, Tarxien will be all out to make amends for last week's 5-0 defeat against Balzan. The Rainbows are currently third from bottom, with sixteen points, two over Zebbug Rangers.
To boost their hopes of avoiding relegation, they have signed midfielder Jorge Yepes and striker Edu Vallecillo, after having released a host of foreign players in the past weeks.
Birkirkara have no players suspended, but Tarxien will be without the services of Alessandro Lopes Pereira, who collected his fourth yellow card in the last match.
The Stripes might start as favourites for this match, but they must be aware of their opponents, when considering that they have surprisingly defeated them with a 3-1 score in the first round match.
The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 14:00.
Come on the Stripes!
