Girls Under-16's denied by late goal

Birkirkara Girls Under-16's Team suffered a dramatic defeat when in a five-goal thriller, Raiders scored the winning goal four minutes from time, to register a 3-2 victory in an entertaining match.

In a high-tempo match, Raiders surged ahead after six minutes with a long-distance free-kick. The Stripes equalized on the twelfth minutes thanks to a fine header by Michela Felice, but less than sixty seconds laters, Raiders were regained the lead with a shot from distance. The first-half ended with Raiders enjoying a narrow 2-1 lead.

In the second half, Birkirkara pushed forward but they were unable to penetrate the Raiders' rear-guard. However, the final ten minutes produced two goals, on one each side. Seven minutes from time, in an action by two substitutes, Alanis Cardona served Sarah Urpani who levelled the score. However, there was more drama in store, as Raiders notched the winning goal three minutes from time.

The Stripes will be involved in their last league match on Sunday, 1 March. The match will be played at the Gharghur Grounds and is scheduled to kick off at 10.00.
