Maachi seeks top-level return

Nassir Maachi stole the limelight in last Sunday's match. He is grateful for the trust shown in him by Birkirkara FC and is seeking to show his true potential with this Club. He said this during an interview before taking on Naxxar Lions FC on Sunday afternoon.

Coming from the ranks of Utrecht FC, Nassir Maachi enjoyed positive spells with a host of Dutch teams before moving the Cyprus to join AEK Larnaca. However, his dream adventure had to come to an end with a long-term injury. The Dutch forward, who is now injury-free, is seeking to reach his maximum level starting by this adventure with our Club.

Nassir opened with “I joined Birkirkara FC because I wanted to show my potential following a long-term injury. Before coming to this Club, I spoke with the Coach about my situation and I was happy that the Coach saw it as an aim to work with me, and bring me back physically and mentally. I'm feeling very happy here to get another chance and I want to do my maximum in this adventure. I have a long way to go, but I'm on the right track. ”

About the last match Nassir said, “I think it was a good game from our side. It is important to score early goals against teams who are inferior on paper. That breaks them down immediately. Then, it's a matter to score the second goal. It took us till the 70th minute. In my opinion if we were a bit smarter we could have finished it earlier.”

He went on by saying “I believe that Naxxar are more or less similar to Pieta, and for this match once again, we have to score early. It gives us more space and then I hope we can score the second goal quicker than we did last Saturday.”

When asked about the dressing room atmosphere, he told us, “I really have nice team-mates, and they were really helpful when I came to this Club. There is a lot of respect for each other, while when the time is right, we use the right dose of humour to joke around.”

Despite trailing Hibernians by eighth points, with eleven matches to go, Nassir has not given up on the title race, as he said, “Of course, we can still win the title. From a previous experience of mine, I once lost the title with fourteen points ahead and sixteen matches to go. In football, everything is possible.”

Winning the league might seem a long shot, but winning the FA Trophy might be more acheivable. Nassir said “It should be amazing to win the cup. It's a nice honour and we are two games away to reach that. We have to do everything for it and we will have it in our hands.”

Nassir signed of with a message to the supporters. “We need you every single game. You can help us reach our goals!.”
