Women's Team in a goal-less draw against Mgarr United
by Ayrton Galea - 21st September 2016Birkirkara FC Women's Team shared a goal-less draw with Mgarr United FC in the opening fixture of the BOV Women's First Division League.
The Stripes should have taken the lead after two minutes when a pass by Gabriella Zahra unzipped the defence but Raina Giusti hit high from inside the box to lose a golden opportunity. Kim Parnis headed a corner taken by Giusti over while Kelly Agius Pace had a shot saved by Borg, after served by Tracy Teuma.
In the second-half, the Stripes pushed more forward and a free-kick by Teuma was turned into a corner by Borg. Borg then produced a brilliant save to deny Teuma from a wonderful strike from outside the box. Gabriella Zahra should have concluded better from inside the box as her weak shot was saved by Borg while moments later failed the target with an effort ended over.
The frustrating full-time result saw the Stripes dropping their first two points of the league. They will now take on Kirkop United in a tricky encounter next Tuesday. The match will be played at the Mgarr Grounds and it will kick off at 20:15.
