Second round gets underway as Stripes face Saints
by Ayrton Galea - 18th November 2016Birkirkara FC will be seeking to get back to winning ways and start the second round of the BOV Premier League on a good note. Following the international break, the Stripes will take on St. Andrew's FC this afternoon.
Following a convincing 3-0 victory over Balzan and a five-star display against Gzira United to demolish them with a 7-1 score, the Stripes' progress was punctured in the last two matches of the first round after a narrow defeat against Hibernians and a 1-1 draw against Floriana.
The Stripes finished the first round in the fourth place with twenty-points from eleven matches. Despite ending the first round in the fourth place, they are currently the best attack and the defence in the league as they scored twenty-six goals while they conceded nine goals, same as second-placed Hibernians and fifth-placed Floriana.
On the other hand, St. Andrew's, who brought on Coach Danilo Doncic off Jose Borg in the first week of October, finished the first round at a respectable eight place position.
Under the guidance of Doncic, they have conceded only one defeat from the last four matches as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Hibernians. On the other hand, defeated Pembroke Athleta and Gzira United while shared the spoils with Valletta in a goal-less draw in between.
In the first round match, the Stripes registered a comfortable 4-0 victory thanks to a goal each of Srdjan Dimitrov, Edward Herrera, Ryan Scicluna and James Brincat.
The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will kick off at 14:00.
