Late goal sinks Women's Team
by Ayrton Galea - 28th August 2017Birkirkara FC Women's Team suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat against ZNK Olimpija Ljubljana, as Natalija Golob scored the all-important winning goal three minutes inside the added time of the second half to hand the hosts the victory in the last match of the group.
It was a harsh defeat for the Stripes, as the latter were never inferior to their opponents while they created several scoring opportunities where they could have broken the dead-lock. However, a last-gasp goal left the Stripes nothing to show for their big efforts.
Both teams had their chances, but with the result still in stalemate the match seemed to be heading towards a fair goal-less draw. However, Golob had other plans as she slotted home from close-range in the third minute of added time of the second half to secure her team's first victory.
