U17: Birkirkara FC 0-0 Valletta FC
by Ayrton Galea - 17th December 2017Birkirkara FC Under-17's Team were held in a goal-less draw in an intense match played at the Sirens Stadium. The Stripes were forced to play almost the entire match with one player less.
Adam Camilleri was sent off after just four minutes when the referee adjudicated the Birkirkara player that have hit his opponent in an off-the-ball situation. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Stripes enjoyed an edge over their opponents.
Sebastian Grech and Ethan Letridge both went close for the Stripes in the opening moments of the second half, but both players saw their shots saved by the Valletta goalkeeper. On the other side of the pitch, Birkirkara goalkeeper Amara Sylla produced an incredible save off a close-range effort.
Just past the hour-mark, Valletta had a player sent off for hitting a player. With parity restored, the Stripes pushed forward for the winner but Calvin Mallia's effort and Paul Mbong's conclusion did not find the back of the net.
