Herrera: It is going to be a big match
by Ayrton Galea - 24th February 2018Defender Edward Herrera has labelled the match against Valletta FC as a big match and remarked that it took a lot of effort and commitments from everyone involved to be in this position, after turning things around from the beginning of the season.
Edward opened this interview by sharing his views on the big match. “It is going to be a big match as we are in a position to compete with Valletta and challenge for the major honours.”
“We are very satisfied that we have managed to climb up the table and close the gap from the top to just five points. However, we have achieved nothing yet and these next 7 matches will determine the final classification.”
The Stripes are coming from eight consecutive victories and this winning streak enabled them to overturn their disappointing start. Herrera stated that even at the team's worst moment, the players were aware that they are not far off from the top.
“We had a very difficult start to the season however even at our worst moment, we knew that we weren't too far away from the top positions as the teams were balanced and all teams were losing points. It took a lot of effort and commitment from the whole team (players and coaching staff) to turn things around.”
“A special mention must go to the committee and President who didn't give up and kept on investing in the team to improve the squad and make it more competitive. The team has been in excellent form over the past months and has grown in confidence with each positive result.”
Herrera is one of the veteran players in the team and he shared his views how he sees this fact. “I believe it means that the other players look up to you and feed off the image you portray. For this reason, it is important to set a good example, to be positive and to remain calm, even in difficult moments.”
The Birkirkara defender concluded this interview with a message to the supporters, “First of all we thank those supporters who have followed us throughout the whole season and who have watched us rise from the difficult situation we were in. We hope that there will be a good turnout for our upcoming match against Valletta and hopefully we will be celebrating at the end of the season.”
