Women's Knock-Out Final - Mgarr United FC vs. Birkirkara FC
by Ayrton Galea - 14th May 2019Champions Birkirkara FC and league runners-up Mgarr United FC will go head to head in the Women's Knock-Out final this evening in a match that will be played at the Charles Abela Stadium (Kick Off - 20:00).
This much-awaited final will bring to an end the domestic season of women's football that saw the Stripes winning their third consecutive league title after defeating the stern challenge of Mgarr United FC.
These two teams will go head to head in the Knock-Out final for the second year running following last year's thrilling final that saw the Stripes completing the treble by winning the Knock-Out after edging their opponents on penalties.
The Stripes will be seeking to win this competition for a record fifteenth time and end another magnificent season in the best possible way while Mgarr United will be eyeing their first silverware in history.
Birkirkara and Mgarr United have met four times this season with the Stripes winning the first and the last match while the two matches in between ended in a goalless draw.
The Stripes secured their passage to the final by beating Swieqi United FC with a 3-0 score in the quarter-final while defeating Kirkop United FC with a 4-0 score in the semi-final.
On the other hand, Mgarr United registered a comfortable 5-0 victory in quarter-final while brought to an end Hibernians' disappointing season to an end in the semi-final by beating them with a 5-2 score after the extra-time period.
