Season 2021-22 MFA Latest Updates
by Clayton Schembri - 9th August 2021The BOV Premier League, season 2021/22, will kicks off on Thursday 12 August. In a press- conference held at the Centenary Hall in Ta 'Qali, the MFA announced the latest updates on the upcoming season. The President of the Malta Football Association, Bjorn Vassallo, said that we will finally see the return of the fans at the stadium, hoping that the league will come to an end and not as it happened in the last two seasons.
The tournament will be split in two phases, the first phase; the teams will play a round robin, then at the end of the second round there will be a split between the first six and the last six in order to play the third and final round. At the end of the season there will be a winner and two teams relegated to the Challenge League. On the other hand, the first four teams will be promoted from the Challenge League, so that the Premier League will again be composed of 14 teams for the 2022/23 season.
The best two games of the weekend will be showed live on TVM2 and later on TVM News +.
This year line-up will include 20 players and not 18. In addition, each team must bring in a squad of a maximum of 25 players. Up to 5 substitutions per team can be made in each game, while the maximum number of non-home-grown foreign players has now risen to twelve. In addition, up to 7 foreign players can play on the pitch and up to nine on the line-up.
Tickets will be priced at € 10, while children under 12 and people with a Senior Card pay € 4. Tickets will be per game and can only be purchased online through https://tickets.mfa.com.mt – there will be no sale of tickets from stadium booths or outlets on matchday – while ticket holders buying their tickets online will be asked to register and upload their vaccination certificate. Since the fans will be allowed to enter the stadium again, the live online games will no longer be shown.
In every section of the stadium fans will be admitted according to the measures of the Health Authorities and the Maltese Government. Therefore, by the end of August, up to 500 people can be admitted to each section if space allows. Anyone wishing to enter the stadium cannot buy the ticket from the door and must present a vaccine certificate or swab a negative test taken up to 48 hours in advance.
The big games of the week, which will be played at the National Stadium, will feature fans of the home team at the West Stand and the away team at the Millennium Stand. In addition, if the competition is high, the rear sections of the bars can be opened.
From this season, there will be an honor for the Coach of the Month. This is chosen by the captains, team managers, media and MFA technical team. In addition, a player who scores a hat-trick will be able to take the ball of the game with him.
The stadium will open an hour and a half before the game so that everyone can find their place, which means that for MFA one game will mean a six-hour allocation. This weekend's games will move by an hour due to the heat wave, and instead start at 19:00 and start at 20:00.
