Birkirkara all out to close gap with leaders
by Ayrton Galea - 3rd November 2012Birkirkara have an excellent opportunity this Sunday afternoon to move just two points away from leaders Valletta, who were held in a draw for the second consecutive time. But to achieve this 'The Stripes' have to overcome the challenge of Qormi.
With Valletta surprisingly dropping another two points against Balzan, following the 1-1 draw against Rabat Ajax, Birkirkara should be all out for the precious three points which will consolidate their second position while moving them closer to the leaders.
Still fresh from their win against Hibernians, the Birkirkara squad needs to keep its feet on the ground as Qormi could prove to be a much more difficult challenge than expected.
Qormi suffered a major drawback by the suspension of Gaetan Spiteri in the last days, following the match fixing claim in a match between Sliema Wanderers and Hamrun Spartans which was played last season. The Yellow-Blacks are in the 8th position and they will be doing everything possible to win precious points which will move them to safer waters.
Last season these two teams met twice in the Premier League with a win each with an identical 2-0 score. Birkirkara won the first round match, but Qormi emerged as winners in the second round match.
Paul Fenech will return for Birkirkara following a one match ban against Hibernians but Zach Muscat is ruled out suspended following collecting the fourth yellow card in the last match against Hibernians.
The match will be played at Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 16:15. Transport from Valley Road will leave at 15:15.
Come on the Stripes!
