Match Preview | Birkirkara FC - Hamrun Spartans
by Clayton Schembri - 21st August 2021Birkirkara FC will be facing current Maltese football champions, Hamrun Spartans, in a highly anticipated encounter this evening, at the National Stadium Ta' Qali, Kick-off 19:00.
The Stripes had a perfect start to the 2021/2022 football season, securing all 3 points in the opening match against Mosta. Birkirkara managed to find the net three times, two of them scored by newly debutants - Jeferson Macedo and Leandro Aguirre, while Federico Falcone scored the third goal thanks to a great assist by Diego Venancio. It was also the first clean-sheet of the season, marking a perfect debut to our new man between the sticks, Portuguese goalkeeper, Daniel Fernandes.
Hamrun Spartans didn't start their campaign the way they wanted, failing to win any points against Valletta in a 2-1 scoreline. The Spartans went ahead just before the break, but couldn't maintain the lead following a second-half come-back from the Citizens.
In the previous season, the matches between the two were highly contested. Each team managed to get one win on the other. The Stripes were the only team last season that managed to get a win over the champions, thanks to the goals scored by Yannick Yankam and Federico Falcone.
Coach Andre Paus will have available the full squad including the new comers Enzo Ruiz and Kilian Bevis.
This match will certainly attract the attention of local football enthusiasts, with both teams eager to get the 3 points.
