Transfer Market - the story so far
by Ayrton Galea - 22nd July 2011After almost two months since the start of the transfer campaign, we are presenting a summary of what has happened so far.
The Birkirkara FC committee did not wait much to start taking decisions for new contracts and players and in fact, before even the transfer market begins, on the 19 May 2011, Birkirkara released Nikola Vukanac, Ibrahim Babatunde, Michael Fraser and Rodolfo Kumbrevicius.
Nikola Vukanac is now having a trial with a Serbian club, Michael Fraser joined a Scottish team, and Rodolfo Kumbrevicius returned to Brazil.
Also on that day, Birkirkara decided not to offer new contracts to Head Coach Mr. Paul Zammit and Assistant Coach Mr. Branko Nisevic. Mr. Zammit is still without a club while Mr. Nisevic joined the Technical Board of the Malta Football Association.
On Sunday 21 May, Birkirkara FC appointed Mr. Patrick Curmi as Head Coach.
On Wednesday 1 June, the squad returned to training and the Transfer Market campaign was now on the way. Jacopo Camilli returned to our Club from a loan with an Italian club.
The Club's Annual General Meeting was held on the 10 June and a new committee was elected.
On the 17 June, Birkirkara FC opened their acquisition campaign for season 2011-2012 by engaging the services of 21 year old Leighton Grech who signed a five year contract.
Birkirkara continued to strengthen the squad the following day when Jorge Mora agreed terms and signed a one year contract.
On the same day, Michael Galea decided to stop playing for Birkirkara to bring to and end his successful era with Birkirkara.
Monday 20 June was a busy one in the transfer market . First Terence Vella renewed his contract for five years. Then Birkirkara FC signed three players namely Marcis Savinovs, Antonio Gomes and David Da Silva. However, these players were released by Birkirkara FC as they were not deemed to be what the Club was looking for.
On 22 June Birkirkara engaged the services of Mr. Roderick Agius as the Goalkeepers' Coach.
Birkirkara FC appointed Mr. Peter Pullicino as assistant coach on Saturday 25 June.
On Monday 27 June, Birkirkara manage to sign what many consider the best acquisition so far, in the form of the international midfielder, Gareth Scibberas.
Tthe following day, Birkirkara released Emiliano Lattes, while they renewed the contracts of Joseph Zerafa and Paul Fenech for three and four years respectively.
On June 30, Thomas Paris moved on a permanent transfer to Floriana FC while Karl Pulo decided to join Tarxien Rainbows FC.
Andrei Agius' contract expired on June 30, and he will be returning to Italy on the 25 July with his club AS Melfi.
The transfer market will close on August 30.
